What is the pay?

During the training period, trainees are considered part-time employees and are not eligible for benefits.  Once the CDL license is obtained, they will be promoted to a full-time Ready-Mix Driver I and pay varies depending on the area.  The time working as a trainee will be applied to the 45-day waiting period for benefits.

How long is the in-house CDL training?

The program is a six-week training program designed to prepare an individual to pass the State CDL, Class B test. In addition, the individual would learn to operate a ready-mix truck safely.

How much does the in-house CDL training cost?

The cost of the six-week training program is $3,500. However, trainees will not be required to pay this amount up front. By signing the agreement, they agree to repay the cost of the training by authorizing the deduction of $23.00 per week from their bi-weekly paycheck for 36 months (3 years). Deductions will begin during the time they are employed as a Ready-Mix Driver Trainee and will continue thereafter. If the participant leaves before the end of the 36 months, they will be required to pay Vulcan the remaining balance on the $3,500 advance. Once the cost of the training is paid back, the employee will receive a $1,000 retention bonus on their 4th, 5th and 6th employment anniversary.

What's the typical work week for ready-mix drivers?

Hours are determined by jobs in the area and weather. Our drivers can expect 40-50 hours a week with opportunities to work additional hours.

Is the job over-the-road or local?

All driving jobs are local to your operation. There are no over-the-road jobs.
